Louise Laplante
Artist Louise Laplante studied at the Art Institute of Boston, received her BFA at College of New Rochelle and MA in Fine Art at SUNY Albany. She started actively exhibiting my work in the 1980’s, in galleries in New York, New England and around the country. She works in various media including pastel, oil stick and collage.
“My art explores those creatures whose interactions with that world are basic and uncomplicated, while reflecting my relationship with the materials I am working with, my fascination with old paper stems from its aged beauty, its contents, and its images along with the creases, discolorations, stray marks, and stains that give them a richness that can’t be achieved with new paper. I create stencil like silhouettes on the collaged background to create an image that works with the paper both as pattern and as text/notes/images for a work that evokes a sense of whimsy and nostalgia.”
