Artist Q & A:

What do you love about painting interiors and where do you find inspiration?

Painting domestic spaces gives me an opportunity to paint geometric shapes, organic shapes, and pattern, which I still find engaging. I’ve also found it to be a very versatile framework, which can unify almost any random collection of my paintings. Recently, I’ve been thinking of the domestic spaces as a vehicle for painting landscapes - patios, sun porches, greenhouses and big bay windows, etc. It may not be immediately obvious, but just like landscapes, my interiors are also concerned with capturing a specific sense of place.

Which three artists do you look to for inspiration?

Wayne Thiebaud, Hernan Bas, and Peter Doig. Love their use of color and sense of place.
