Loose Canine
Loose Canine is the pseudonym of Canadian artist Alan MacIntyre, whose work explores the boundaries between painting, deconstruction, and assemblage. Based in Knowlton, Québec, MacIntyre creates constructed paintings, hybrid works that blur the line between two and three dimensions.
Each piece is the result of painting, cutting, rearranging, and reassembling surfaces into layered compositions that carry both the history of their making and the immediacy of their final form.
A recurring small dog, playful yet watchful, serves as LooseCanine’s signature, threading through bodies of work as a marker of identity, curiosity, and persistence. This motif anchors otherwise abstract, tactile worlds built from fragments of colour, texture, and space. MacIntyre brings a sharp eye for visual impact and narrative suggestion to his practice.
His work invites viewers to engage not only with surface and form, but with the tension between what is revealed and what is withheld.
