Alexandra Niculescu is a Romanian artist living and working in Bucharest. Her work is inspired by Old Master paintings, referencing their colours and forms, which are imagined in a contemporary aesthetic. “Through careful observation of old master’s works, I reinterpret their aesthetics in a modern context. I begin my paintings with images from old masters, particularly from the Rococo period, characterised by elaborate and ornamental decorations. The juxtapositions between warm and cool colours contribute to the visual tension present in my paintings.“
