Zhiheng Gong

Zhiheng Gong is a spatial and sculpture artist based in Detroit, Michigan. His work “Dancing Grid” showcases his innovative approach to form and material. Zhiheng Gong’s art explores the interplay between traditional techniques and contemporary design, reflecting his diverse cultural background and experiences.

He shares, “As a multimedia visual artist, I primarily work with sculpture and installation, utilizing wood, acrylic, foam, resin, and metal materials. My works present the small details of life, abstractly representing these details and breaking the barriers between the void and the tangible. Most of my pieces are characterized by deconstructivism and asymmetry, emphasizing that each angle has its unique appearance, encouraging viewers to observe and contemplate the work from multiple perspectives. Through this approach, my art deeply focuses on the human inner self and slow-paced culture, aiming to provide viewers with a relaxing experience. At the same time, I incorporate traditional Chinese lacquer art into my work to blend Eastern traditional craftsmanship aesthetics with Western contemporary art in hopes of sparking something unique.”
