Sophie Drummer

Sophie Drummer was raised in a small town in Germany and spent the first 15 years of her life in a strict religious cult. Breaking free of this environment that repressed any creative spirit, and after therapy, she uses her art to express her emotions and process her trauma freely.

In 2022, she rediscovered her inner painter. She started feeling her emotions out loud on the canvas after being bedridden from chronic illness the previous years. Her art invites people to look into themselves and feel their own emotions that have been buried for so long. She wants to destigmatize mental illness and the lesser-appreciated feelings like anger, fear and sadness by showing the world that no matter the feeling that is expressed - it has the power to create something colourful, fabulous and full of energy that radiates.

She says “Every artwork is a manifest of thinking, moving and feeling freely - unchained and finally creating beauty from all the pain. Whenever we feel ashamed, we need to express it even more. My art helped me do exactly that.”

“Creating artwork in every mood and through every feeling, no matter how badly I wanted to keep it inside, has taught me acceptance and brought me peace on a level I would have never deemed possible. While I paint, I dance and sing to my favourite songs. Whenever it feels right, my brush touches the canvas to make a unique imprint of a feeling - expressed by a wild and dynamic brushstroke. Unpredictable, completely letting go of fear and control.”
