Artist Q & A
Can you explain what the term “Wirklichkeit” means in relation to your work, and how it influences your artistic approach?
In my work, “Wirklichkeit” represents both perception and effect—how reality is shaped by what we see and how it influences and transforms us. My Raumcollages play with this dual meaning, offering a space where viewers confront their perceptions while engaging with tactile, constructed realities. By layering materials and perspectives, I aim to create works that encourage an active reflection on how we understand and interact with our surroundings.
Sustainability plays a role in your art. How does your focus on environmental issues influence both the materials you use and the messsages you aim to convey through your work?
Sustainability informs both the material choices and conceptual framework of my work. Using recycled materials like cardboard, I emphasize the importance of adaptability and resourcefulness in addressing environmental challenges. These materials not only symbolize fragility and resilience but also serve as a critique of consumption and waste. I aim to inspire viewers to reflect on their environmental impact and to consider how art can contribute to a more sustainable dialogue within our shared ecosystems.
