Chris Klein
Chris Klein is a British artist living in Montreal. He has worked in theatre for thirty years, and much of his inspiration comes from costumes used in movies, theatre, museum collections and the world of fashion.
“It’s fantasy and entertainment, so the costumes can be stunning and highly imaginative. They have captivated me for many years. My costume series crystallised through my work in theatre. As Head of Scenic Art at the Stratford Festival in Canada, I worked next door to their costume warehouse, which housed thousands of costumes from all periods. I took many photographs and soon realised I needed to paint some.”
Chris’s hyperrealist paintings of costumes have gained appreciation worldwide. Chris has expanded his focus to include historic royal ceremonial costumes, drawing inspiration from the collections at Kensington Palace.
