Below The Surface - Solo exhibition, Sieglinde Van Damme
In a time of noise, uncertainty, and collective exhaustion, San Jose-based
abstract artist Sieglinde Van Damme is offering a visual sanctuary to just breathe.
Her solo exhibition, Below the Surface, unveils a body of work that offers beauty, relief, reflection, and release. With layered textures, fluid movements, and an unmistakable emotional resonance, Van Damme’s work serves as a soothing yet empowering breath of fresh air in a chaotic world.
Spanning all four of Van Damme’s current series, the show brings together years of work rooted in a quiet yet powerful creative life philosophy: “re-imagine what else is possible”
Van Damme creates invitations. Not to escape life, but to re-enter it from a place of possibility.
Each piece also includes a sealed, handwritten letter from the artist to the future collector—a
deeply personal reflection on what inspired the work and what it may unlock for its new
owner.
“My work was never meant to just be passive decoration, it’s energy and inspiration. A visual
reminder that there is always another possibility, even if you cannot see it yet,” Van Damme
notes. “In chaotic times, beauty and reflection are not luxuries - they are lifelines.”
Below the Surface is a unique kind of exhibition. One that leaves a lasting impression not
through spectacle, but through its underlying subtlety. It’s less a show and more a soft,
powerful shift.
